It’s the making that makes us!
What am I most passionate about? More than anything I love helping people explore the intersections between art-making, community building, science and other disciplines to actively shape the world around us.
I'm an artist, educator, writer, and entrepreneur who has spent my career at the intersection of art-making, science, business, and learning. Currently, I serve as a Continuing Appointment Instructor in the Arts Management and Green+Gold programs at Colorado State University, where I teach courses like Law and the Arts, Community Engagement and the Arts, and The Perfect Intersection: Art-Making as a Way to Learn (and Do) Anything.
My path to CSU has been anything but linear — and that’s exactly how I like it. Trained in music, painting, chemistry, and education, I've spent more than three decades in marketing, communications and leadership roles with some of the most iconic brands in the artist’s materials world, including Winsor & Newton and Liquitex. My book, What Every Artist Needs to Know About Paints and Colors (Krause, 2000), reflects my lifelong curiosity about how creativity, science, and art-making converge.
For 15 years, I led publishing and media brands for creative communities, serving as Senior Vice President and Group Publisher with F+W Media. There, I helped guide publications such as The Artist’s Magazine, Watercolor Artist, Interweave Knits, Love of Quilting, and their associated digital platforms.
In 2020, I pivoted again — leaving corporate life to launch Pyle Creative Studio, where I now support community art-making initiatives and develop content and community-building strategies with creative businesses and in my role as an instructor with CSU.
